Low-key day. Drove down to Carlingford to catch up with the Ford-McCoys for lunch and a look around this delightful sea-side-village. 'Quaint', 'idyllic' and 'picturesque' are terms oft-used and perhaps overly so, but they are so apt, not just for today, but for so many of the towns and villages we have travelled through.
Had lunch in a delightfully quaint, idyllic and picturesque little pub - could have quite easily settled in for the afternoon, but had to get going and work on some more cliches. Slow walk through some of the quaint, idyllic and picturesque streets of the village, back to our quaint, idyllic and picturesque cars parked in the quaint, idyllic and picturesque car park. Drove back to Ardee - rained. Rested. Just about to go out for dinner with the friends with whom the F-M's are staying so that we can apologise to them for having indirectly imposed upon them by directly imposing on the F-M's. Will try to bribe them with cheap Australian wine.
Met Paula, Robert and (rather fleetingly due to the lateness of the hour) their three young children. It did not seem that we had to apologise after all - they did not seem to mind a bit that our presence here had completely disrupted their past week, and for that we are more than grateful and very thankful. Again, and I know it is sounding a bit repetitive and perhaps rather hackneyed, a very delightful and welcoming family - a wonderful evening which will serve us well as a memory of almost our last night in Ireland, as tomorrow night is going to have to be a bit of a quiet and early one due to the early start the day after. At the risk of sounding far too contrived, really good craic.
